Make immediate policies and bid farewell to 2G: Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of the country's most valuable company Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has now advocated making 2G a part of history, marking 25 years of the mobile telephony era. On the occasion of the silver jubilee of mobile telephone facility on Friday, Ambani said that on one side, the large population of India and the world is standing at the mouth of 5G.

On the other hand, 300 million population of the country is still using 2G services and does not have access to basic internet services. Ambani said, 'I would especially like to point out the fact that 300 million people in the country are still confined to 2G, their feature phones do not even have basic internet facilities. That too at a time when India and other countries of the world are ready to enter the era.

I think that there is a need to run a policy stance very fast to bid farewell to 2G and be a part of history. Ambani announced sometime back it was said that Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of RIL, will build an affordable smartphone to free India. In 1995, India entered the golden future by launching a mobile service. Before that, the wired telephone gave a kind of imagination to the communication world. But that was incomplete freedom of communication. The reason for this was that people could communicate anywhere and anytime.

They had to be near the phone to communicate. But now we are in the era when affordable mobile service is available to all within reach and people can hold any lengthy conversation for free without stopping. Now people share information on mobile phones and keep themselves updated with the news of the country and abroad.

This era of the Corona crisis is the best example of how the mobile phone is making people aware and passing the necessary information to them. In such a situation, it is more important than those who are still limited to 2G service should be raised above that.

It is to be noted that about four years ago, RIL started its 4G service under Reliance Jio and it changed the domestic mobile telephony business almost. Free calls from his Jio and unlimited data service at a much lower fee than the then market price forced many companies to change their strategy and many more to consolidate the business.

However, this benefited the customers significantly, because, after the arrival of Reliance Jio, the fee for call and data services in India became the lowest worldwide.
