GST cases will be settled through video conferencing

Appeals related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) will now be settled through video conferencing while issuing guidelines in this regard, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has written a letter to GST officials.

In a letter to the Principal Chief Commissioners, it has been said that personal hearing of all types of appellate matters related to GST should be ensured through video conferencing. This will save money as well as time in settling disputes. Besides, it will be possible to follow the physical distance required for the prevention of corona infection. However, the taxpayer will have the right to refuse the hearing through virtual means.

Earlier in April, the CBIC had issued a similar direction for disposal of cases related to the Customs Act - erstwhile excise and service tax.
