Giant companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook have threatened to leave the country after the government enacted stricter rules on Internet media in Pakistan.
According to the Dawn newspaper the Internet media organization Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), has said that the rules made by the government of Pakistan are completely opaque. This organization represents Facebook, Google, and Twitter. Pakistan's government has recently formulated the Removal and Blocking of Un-Lawful Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguard) Rules 2020.
Under this rule, government agencies and officials have been given more powers. Under the new rule, the Internet media company has been required to make available any information or data in a decrypted and readable format to a special agency created by the government.
