Supreme Court has expressed happiness over the government's decision to give permanent commission in the army to women officers. The court had earlier asked the government to consider increasing the role of women in the army. The apex court has said that this is the victory of our nation, women will also be able to serve the country by going to the highest level.
The Supreme Court, in an order dated 17 February, asked the Center to consider giving permanent commissions to all Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers. In this, they will get a chance to serve for 20 years. The remarks made on Monday were made by a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Indu Malhotra, and Justice Indira Banerjee.
The bench was hearing another matter related to the permanent commission of women officers presented to senior advocate R Balasubramanian. Balasubrahmanyam said, "70 percent of the women officers have benefited from the order of February 17. About 450 women officers have got the benefit of permanent commission.
