Spectrum auction recommended by TRAI for starting 5G service

The days of the auction of spectrum for the commencement of the 5G service are not far away. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Secretary SK Gupta said that the spectrum auction has already been recommended by TRAI and the recommendation is under consideration with the Department of Telecom.

He said that the auction of the spectrum could begin soon. He also said that the spectrum auction price would be in line with market expectations. Telecom companies have expressed apprehension that they will participate in the auction. On the first day of the Mobile Congress, 2020, Asia's largest Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of a 5G service in the country sometime in the second half of next year, ie after June 2021.

Till now the spectrum has also not been auctioned. At the Mobile Congress on Thursday, Gupta said that he hopes that the 5G service will be started in India soon, which will prove to be a complete picture change. He said that taking care of the privacy of data and the safety of consumers will be a big challenge in the era of 5G.

At the Indian Mobile Congress, the telecom service providers demanded the government to make spectrum available for the trial of 5G service at the earliest. Telecom companies say, the Center should also clarify the quantum of the auction of spectrum. The availability of spectrum should be continuous and there should not be any geographical hindrance in this work.
