All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has clarified that a BTech degree obtained from IGNOU and diploma in engineering will be considered valid before the academic session 2010-12. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) used to run two courses through distance education but after being told by the University Grants Commission (UGC) that technical courses could not be conducted through distance education and it was a violation of rules, then IGNOU Stopped them. The order issued by the Bureau of Policy and Academic Planning of the regulator of technical education said, "IGNOU conducted two courses through distance education. In the year 2018, the Supreme Court validated the diploma and B.Tech degree awarded by IGNOU to the candidates registered in the session 2009-10. The order said that the apex court has now also relieved some candidates for the academic session 2010-11 and 2011-12 and it is understood that after this, IGNOU did not conduct these courses through distance education. There are batches who will be given this relief. ' AICTE said, "AICTE has no objection to the degree of students who have been awarded Diploma in Engineering and B.Tech in Engineering till the academic session 2010-12 as per the Supreme Court's decision and hence AICTE will not be considered valid."
