Former BARC CEO's bail rejected in fake TRP case

The Mumbai sessions court has refused to grant bail to Partha Dasgupta, former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), accused in a fake television rating point (TRP) case. Parth was arrested on 24 December 2020 from Pune.

Earlier, his bail plea was rejected by a magistrate court and said that Dasgupta had played a key role in the scam. Opposing Dasgupta's bail plea in the sessions court, Special: Public Prosecutor Shishir Hire said that a charge sheet has been filed in the case, but there are still many things that need to be investigated. Argued that Dasgupta is an important person and controls the whole system, so witnesses may be affected by his release.

He also drew attention to the court's alleged WhatsApp chat between Dasgupta and Republic TV's Arnab Goswami. He said, 'We have seen the court talk about TRP on WhatsApp in which Dasgupta promised to bring some other channels down and Arnab's channel to the top.

On the other hand, Dasgupta's lawyer told the court that charges have been made against him without any evidence. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court rejected Dasgupta's bail plea.
