As preparations for vaccination against Corona in the country, the first batch of Kovshield has reached 13 cities including the capital Delhi. Flights were operated from Pune for Covishield's 56.5 lakh doses of Serum Institute.
The Serum Institute is producing a vaccine produced by Oxford-AstraZeneca in India. Vaccination will start in the country from January 16. Amid tight security in the morning, a dose of Kovishield in three trucks was transported to Pune airport.
From here, these doses were sent to different parts of the country by planes of Air India, Indigo, GoAir, and SpiceJet. In the first batch, Delhi 2.64 lakh, Andhra Pradesh 4.96 lakh, Karnataka 6.47 lakh Lakhs, 3.64 lakhs have been given to Telangana, 2.76 lakhs to Gujarat, 5.36 lakhs to Tamil Nadu, and 4.33 lakhs to Kerala.
Drug regulator DCGI recently approved the emergency use of two vaccines. These include Kovishield of Serum Institute and Kovaxin of Bharat Biotech.
