The government has asked e-commerce companies to appoint nodal officers to protect the interests of customers. These nodal officers are required to ensure compliance with the new rules of customer safety. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the new rules added to the Customer Safety (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 have come into force from May 17.
These rules also apply to e-commerce companies registered in India and those companies registered abroad, which are supplying goods and services to Indian customers. The ministry said in its statement that e-commerce companies will appoint a nodal officer or any other senior 'officer'. These officers will be Indian citizens and will ensure compliance with customer safety regulations.
